Orientation Week

First Year students (Freshers) are by tradition given an “acclimatization” period of normally one week which is referred to as the “Orientation Week”. When The Freshers report on Campus they are introduced to the key facilities in the school as well as other important aspects of life at the school. A programme of activities is always issued out and is expected to be strictly followed.

Recreation and sports activities

There are number of recreation and sports activities at the school. The Department of Sports and Recreation offers welfare and sports skills services to the students through a comprehensive, dynamic and exciting Inter-Hall/courses Sports Championships scheduled to take place during the First Semester of the each academic year. The games include:foot ball,Netball,Atheletics,Volley ball, badminton, table tennis

The school has a Games and Sports Unit headed by a Sports Tutor. The Sports tutor together with the staff in the Games and Sports Unit work closely with the Students Games Union to manage Games and Sports at the University.

Spiritual life

ST.LUKE’S CHARPEL-KAGANDO ANGLICAN CHURCH OF UGANDA

ST.Lukes’s charpel is found in Kagando hospital. It was founded  Early 1960s .

Its formation was focusing on:

  • Building and strengthening the spiritual welfare of the patients, Doctors, Nurses and Students.
  • To nature humanity holistically through preaching , teaching, healing and caring.
  • To contribute to the poverty reduction in the communities around.

Counselling and Guidance

The Counselling and Guidance Centre helps students who need assistance on guidance about their daily life problems which might hamper their steady progress in the academic field or prevent them from enjoying their life in general. Such problems embrace the whole range of health (Medical and psychiatric) problems, Socio-Economic, marital, sexual, academic, spiritual and other problems.

Below are the issues on which we focus:

  1. Sexual and reproductive health-related issues
  2. Love relationship related challenges
  3. Academic concerns – academic malpractices due to declining morals and ethical standards, examination fears that result into anxiety disorders.
  4. Habits like alcoholism, drug addictions etc.
  5. Interaction-related challenges for example intolerance that may lead to conflict
  6. Phobic disorders – Fears of situations that may not necessarily present real danger.

The Centre is currently housed in the school chaplain’s office where he conducts Counselling and Guidance sessions.

Medical Access

Kagando Hospital comprises various units which render different services to the school and Community. It offers both curative and preventive services. The dental unit offers extraction, scaling, polishing and filling-in services for the teeth. There is also a new and modern X-ray unit which deals with all X-ray diagnosis. The Laboratory concerns itself with examining samples of blood, stool and Urine.

HOSTELS

There are 5 halls of residence for male students and three for female students. Each student will be admitted to the membership of one of these Halls. Each Fresher has accordingly been attached to a Hall of Residence by the school warden. Accommodation in the Halls is pay as part of school fees.

Hostel leaders are elected for each hostel to oversee the behavior of students assisted by the Minister of Social and Campus Affairs in fulfilling this obligation.

While at the hostels, Students are under obligation to be environmentally friendly and tidy.

Students who fail to get accommodation with in the gazetted school Hostels are encouraged to report to the Office of the Warden, for allocation to other hostels not affiliated to school.

Breakfast accompaniment can be accessed at the Guild canteen while on the campus.
